Created in 2003, The Association Arterre was founded for the residents of Bioussac interested in the promotion of contemporary art in a rural environment. A competition was launched in spring 2003 and around twenty artists, mainly French, answered the invitation to tender and present a model of their sculpture on the topic: “l’arbre, la pierre, la terre”.
A preselected committee chaired by the artist Christian Lapie (sculptor of one of works at l’Abrégement) and including Eric Félonneau, one of the curators of the Museum of the Contemporary Art in Bordeaux and art critic Philippe Piguet, selected nine works and these models were exhibited during August 2003 in the village hall. The inhabitants of Bioussac who were registered on the electoral roll, gave their majority vote for the work of Arnaud Darne " La Grande Souche". He carried out the work the next spring with stones gleaned from the fields of the village.
